Introducing you the Team D!
Recap on our day
On June 29, YLC leaders and builders took their first trip to the Laundromat, washing loads of dirty clothes from the beginning of YLC!
Our day began with calisthenics and
delicious pancakes! Afterwards, we went back to our cabins to get our dirty
clothes. When we were all ready, we met at the fireside to wait for the buses to arrive. The four teams were split into two groups and one group was assigned to
each bus: Outlets and Team D and Team E
and A. Both groups went to two separate
Laundromats to prevent overcrowding at both locations.
While our clothes were in the dryer, some of us chose to look around at nearby
stores to pass time and the rest of the leaders and
builders hung out while waiting.
After both groups were done, we met
at the Lancaster Mall to walk around and shop. Across the mall was Chipotle Mexican
Grill, so that was where many of us went. However, the others opted to eat a brown
bag lunch provided by our YLC chefs. After
everyone’s bellies were satisfied with their food and spent time walking around
the mall, we congregated in front of the mall
at 1:45 p.m. and entered the buses to return to
the campsite. It was a day well spent so far and we are
looking forward to much more!
Came our Evening Program of the
night: Train Dodgeball, our recreation time and Italian ziti dinner. It was a
very laid back day and also a way to prepare us for an in-depth
workshop right after dinner. The workshop was about class status and economic struggles in life.
Stephanie
Johnson first presented about many different –isms the day before to show us that
society has infused the way we think. These include audism, ableism,
heterosexism, and many more. Throughout Stephanie’s lesson, we learned how
society creates many rules for how we interact and perceive one another. Her first
presentation provided a foundation for her second workshop. The second workshop
included an activity as a way to make a point about the limitations that
society imposes upon people who suffer from low income. Each of us could better
understand economic struggles that people endure everyday. Most of us felt
impacted by this powerful activity and allowed us to become more aware and
mindful of the things we say and do while leading various groups here at YLC
and back home in our community.
