Our Busy Day with a dab of Watermelon!

Earlier today, we learned about different cultures and their values. It is important for us to respect other cultures’ attires, style, dances, and/or values. We also learned how much we should be sensitive about their beliefs and rituals and respect them.

We had a watermelon carving competition during our evening program! The five teams, including the Galaxtrek, had carved their watermelons to represent something about their groups. Within a short 45 minutes, each of us, the Supfuels, took turns carving and cutting the watermelons. We all had so much fun and had a lot of laughs together. At the end, the Supfuels was placed fourth but we learned a lot from the activity and we had fun as well. Our beautiful watermelon creation was a SUPFUELS tank!

Within the same evening, one of our builders Chanel Gleicher - our current NAD Miss Deaf America Ambassador 2012-2014 - was one of our guest speakers. She showed up at Leadership Hall with a sash and a crown. In 2012, Gleicher won the Miss Deaf America Ambassador competition in Louisville, Kentucky. She presented about her experience as the Miss Deaf America. During her presentation, she told her stories as she showed a slideshow of photos of the competition and her volunteer stints. In addition, she mentioned that Mark Ramirez, also one of our builders, was one of the Master of Ceremonies during the competition. We all enjoyed her presentation and took a group picture with her!
