After calisthenics in the morning, our leaders had a full
day filled with learning how to trust each other during Discovery activities,
how to make fire during Outdoor Living Skills class, playing a new exciting
game called Gaga, and meeting our first guest speaker of the month, Maureen
Behrens.
Behrens came from Washington State to give a workshop on
ways to prevent bullying at YLC. She explained to our leaders about different
types of bullying and how we can avoid and prevent them during the month and
after YLC, too. After her educative workshop, each of us signed No Bullying
Zone pledge to ensure that we won’t tolerate bullying on our campground.
Afterwards, Behrens had the honor of telling her story of
her experience adopting her daughter, Neelamma, from India. Neelamma is now
eight years old, deaf, and will be a third grader at Washington School for the
Deaf in the fall, and hopefully a YLC camper herself in 2022!
